FAQ 5: Should I upgrade my Servox Battery Charger if I have an older model?
QUESTION: "Recently I bought some batteries from another store and when I called to purchase the batteries, the clerk said something about these being newer batteries and the charger, if it was an older model, wouldn't work exactly like it should, and should be upgraded (at a cost of $49.95 plus $6.95 shipping and handling). Since I bought my Servox and charger in 1996, apparently my charger is considered an older model. On questioning her, I asked if it would still charge the batteries. She said it would, but the charger light wouldn't work as it is supposed to. I would have to time the batteries to 4-5 hours of charging. I told her I do that now. The charging light goes out after about a half hour, but I have had no problems charging my batteries. They last me about a week--depending on how much talking I do. So, I am asking for your opinion. Do you think it would be a good idea to get my Servox Charger upgraded? Or can I just continue as I am--timing the charging of my batteries (which is not a problem for me). With the charger the way it is presently, can any damage be done to the newer batteries?" JIM'S ANSWER: Keep your charger the way it is. It charges the batteries EXACTLY the same as the "new" charger. Just be aware that the lights MAY OR MAY NOT go out after the battery is charged. I would save the money if I were you. If you want to upgrade your charger we could send yo a new one, but why fix something that is not broken??? I would also charge the batteries for at least 8 hours and preferably 10 hours regardless of the light. You will get a much better charge. That is my opinion. Hope it helps! |
